The ACU Dirt Store British Enduro Championship headed north to Yorkshire as RAW Enduro hosted rounds five and six at Catterick. Hot weather and two technical tests greeted a great entry of riders, including Belgian wildcard Antoine Magain.

A double victory for Belgian BEC wildcard Antoine Magain

The E3 Sherco star proved unbeatable in the Elite Championship class on a sweltering day one, setting the early pace and then managing his lead over Triumph Factory Team riders Mikael Persson and Jamie McCanney. After nine tests equalling more than an hour of timed competition, Magain secured victory ahead of Persson by almost 26 seconds. McCanney, meanwhile, held off Jack Edmondson (PAR Homes GASGAS) and defending champion Dan Mundell (Triple D Motorsport KTM) in the battle of the Brits.

In the Elite Championship Women category, wildcard Rosie Rowett caught the competition napping with a full-throttle attack on the opening test that saw her break through the timing beams almost 34 seconds quicker than the next fastest rider – Nieve Holmes. Holmes fought back, but the damage was already done and Rowett took the day win with a 30-second advantage. Their battle for supremacy saw them gap the field with third-placed Emily Hall more than eight minutes behind at the end of the day. Hall just about held off TM’s Libby Tett to take the final podium position – there were eight seconds in it when the nine test times were added up.

Jack Keenan has been on fire in the Expert class so far this year and edged clear of Fraiser Lampkin throughout the day to end up with a 1:18 advantage. The battle for the runner-up spot raged all day with Kris Price, Joshua Lawer, Alfie Heard and Ryan Burton all finishing within half a minute of the second-placed rider.

Bradley King led home Joe Chambers and Scott Austin in the Expert Vet Over 35 class while wildcard Connor Watson took the Clubman win on his Sherco ahead of Connor Bolsover and Lucas Travers. Likewise, Tomas Jones (Clubman Youth), Ceri Wyn Jones (Clubman Women), Shane Tasker (Clubman Over 40) and Andrew Reeves (Clubman Over 50) took convincing day one victories.

A revised time schedule, but an earlier start, greeted riders for day two with Persson attacking from the off. The Triumph rider was quickest through the first three tests and still held the lead when Magain fought back in the fourth. However, the Belgian rider kept the pressure on and moved ahead soon after to eventually take a second victory – this time by 28 seconds over Persson, who increased his British Championship lead.

The battle for third raged all day with Jack Eddy putting McCanney under increasing amounts of pressure until the very end. Fortunately for the Manxman, he’d built up a big enough lead through the opening two laps to withstand the attack and secure the final spot on the podium.

Series leader Holmes had it all her own way in the Elite Championship Women category. Libby Tett improved to second place on day two beating home Emily Hall by 20-odd seconds albeit five minutes down on the winner.

Jack Keeen took a pair of Expert class victories

The only thing hotter than the weather on day two was Jack Keenan’s performance in the Expert class as he absolutely blazed his way to victory with a performance that would have seen him score points in the Elite Championship class. Fraiser Lampkin was a strong second once more as Kris Price joined them on the podium.

Bradley King took his second Expert Vet Over 35 win of the weekend with a convincing victory over Joe Chambers and Scott Austin. Evergreen John Shirt missed a trip to the podium by a handful of seconds – a fact made even more impressive by the fact he’s got a good few years on the competition. He’s more experienced, let’s say.

Sherco’s Connor Watson took a second Clubman win on the bounce with Harry Hunt and Connor Bolsover joining the FIM SuperEnduro Youth phenom on the podium.

The Clubman Youth category saw Tomos Jones take the win by over a minute ahead of Jack Leonard. A huge effort following a crash in the second test saw Curtis Mealham bag the final spot on the podium from under the nose of Dylan Tinker – there were just two seconds in it at the end of a hard-fought day.

Ceri Wyn Jones put in another great ride to win the Clubman Women division from Chrissie Harcourt and Emmy Dungworth.

Shane Tasker took top honours in the Clubman Over 40 class after a strong finish. Dan Johnson held the lead at the halfway point but Tasker kept on charging to secure victory with a 25-second advantage. Andrew Reeves, meanwhile, had a much less stressful time of it in the Clubman Over 50 division taking all six test wins on his way to victory over Karl Greenall and Michael Turner.
