Enjoying his best day of competition so far, Yamalube Yamaha's Alessandro Botturi secured victory on stage two of the event to provisionally climb to a close second in the overall rankings.
Two stages before the end of this week-long adventure across Sardinia the Italian rider is less than one minute behind the provisional leader, Yamaha WR450F mounted Xavier de Soultrait.
Confirming his status as a favourite for the win at this year's Sardinia Rally, Botturi rode a brilliant stage two on his WR450F.
Kicking off the day with a fifth position in the short opening special stage, he went on to secure an impressive win in special stage two and along with it clinched the day's victory.
Wrapping up the day in fourth position, Helder Rodrigues provisionally sits sixth in the overall standings.
Ahead of what's shaping up to be the rally's toughest stage the Portuguese rider is determined to keep pushing for a good end-of-event result.
Starting the day with a top three finish in the first special stage, Adrien Van Beveren entered the second and last special of the day willing to fight for the stage victory.
Despite suffering a small navigational mistake the Frenchman managed to gain one position in the overall standings where he's provisionally placed in fifth, just above his teammate Rodrigues.
Stage three of five at the Sardinia Rally will see competitors race a distance of 281km heading to the city of Arbatax.
