EnduroGP back to business - Edolo, Italy preview
By Team TMX on 29th Aug 18
After two long months of the summer break, the FIM Maxxis Enduro World Championship returns this weekend in Italy for round six. This will be a typical Italian race with an enduro test that will be about 10 minutes long, in the forest near Edolo in Northern Italy.
The Technomousse Xtreme Test will be natural and will be located in a river bed, while the Maxxis Cross Test will be divided between forest and meadow and will be about five minutes long.
In the EnduroGP Alex Salvini has dominated since the beginning of the season but the 2013 E2 World Champion is only eight points ahead of reigning champ Steve Holcombe.
In Enduro 2, Salvini has a much healthier lead at the top and is already 31 points ahead of Loic Larrieu and 34 ahead of Eero Remes. He will aim to avoid any pitfalls and seek to increase these gaps a little more in order to aim for the world crown at the next Grand Prix in France.
Behind this trio, Thomas Oldrati will want to consolidate his fourth place, just like Deny Philippaerts who is holding a convincing fifth. Christophe Charlier will be back to after his big fall at the TrentinoGP, while Matthew Phillips could possibly make his return after ill-health in Estonia
Alex Salvini - EnduroGP - 2018
In Enduro 1, Jamie McCanney lost out big time at the beginning of the summer at the GP of Trentino where he injured his shoulder. He is now 20 points behind 2017 Junior World Champion, Brad Freeman.
Behind the two Brits, Antoine Basset, second in Trentino, will once again want to get on the podium, just like Manuel Monni who intends to shine in front of his home fans.
Britains Alex Snow has convinced the RedMoto Team Manager, Matteo Boffelli, to give him another shot as a wild card, and he intends to do well as he did in Estonia.
Over in E3, Gas Gas pair Christophe Nambotin and Danny McCanney are under obligation to win if they do not want to lose their chance of a title. The two are both 26 points behind leader Steve Holcombe.
Matteo Cavallo look set to succeed in his quest for the overall Junior World Title as he is 27 points ahead of Andrea Verona and seems untouchable.
In Junior 1, Andrea Verona dominates the competition. But his rivals, Antoine Magain, the French Theo Espinasse and Kirian Mirabet are in hot pursuit.
Finally, in the 125cc FIM Youth Cup, JET Racings Ruy Barbosa seems to have found his cruising speed, but he will still have to keep an eye on the Sherco armada behind him, composed of Matthew Van Oevelen, Dan Mundell, and Hamish MacDonald who are not far away.
