Steve Holcombe endured a frustrating second round of the FIM EnduroGP World Championship in Oliana, Spain, with the Sherco Factory Racing rider demonstrating race-winning speed but ultimately missing out on a podium after a weekend of setbacks.

Holcombe made a solid start to proceedings with fifth place in Friday night’s Super Test, positioning himself well for the first full day of racing.

However, difficult conditions greeted the riders on Saturday following overnight rain, with the opening cross test proving especially treacherous. Running early on the course, Holcombe struggled for grip on the slick terrain but quickly responded, setting the second-fastest time on the first enduro test to haul himself back into contention.

Building momentum throughout the day, the Brit fought his way into second overall and led the Enduro3 category heading into the final test. Unfortunately, a technical issue brought his charge to an abrupt end, denying him what looked set to be a strong result.

Sunday presented another challenge. A crash on the opening enduro test immediately put Holcombe on the back foot, leaving him with time to recover. He responded with a determined ride, improving steadily across the day and delivering competitive times in the closing stages.

Despite the late push, the early time loss proved too costly to overturn, with Holcombe finishing fifth overall. He did, however, salvage valuable points with second place in the Enduro3 class.

After two rounds, Holcombe sits fifth in the EnduroGP standings, just one point off fourth and six shy of third, keeping him firmly in the hunt as the championship heads into its next phase. In Enduro3, he holds third in the standings, with just 12 points covering the top three riders.

The series resumes later this month with the GP of Finland in Vierumäki (May 22–24).

Reflecting on the weekend, Holcombe said: “It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster. Day one was going really well and I felt like I was where I needed to be, but a technical issue in the final extreme test ended that. Day two didn’t start well with a crash on the first enduro test and I struggled to find a rhythm after that. I probably overthought things a bit, but I kept pushing and improved as the day went on. Now it’s about resetting and focusing on the rest of the championship.”
