Motocross Hawkstone International
The moment we've patiently been waiting for has arrived. This weekend, the Hawkstone International will return after an enforced year away.
For the last couple of weeks, we've looked on with envious eyes as the European motocross season kicked into life.
But now the tables are turned as the world looks to England for their moto fix. Starting this weekend when Salop Motor Club opens the gates to the most famous and iconic international motocross race of them all the ASHBROOK Toughsheet Hawkstone International.
Arguably the biggest stand-alone event of its kind on the global MX calendar, over the years, fans have seen some of the most famous names in modern-day motocross in action at the HIMX, and this year is no exception.
For most, it's the first chance to see riders in their new kit and, in many cases, racing for their new teams. It's also an excellent opportunity to see which riders have put in the work over the off-season.
Among the international big-hitters in MX1 will be Britain's very own Ben Watson (Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP), who, as you will have read in TMX, has enjoyed an excellent start to his career on green.
Joining Vialle is a tasty turnout of young hotshots, including one to watch in 2022, Kay de Wolf, who enjoyed a breakout season in the class last term. Then there's Liam Everts (DIGA Procross KTM Racing) as he makes his full-time MX2 debut, Kay Karssemakers and Isak Gifting (Hitachi KTM fuelled by Milwaukee) and Roan van de Moosdijk (Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing).
Of course, there will be a strong field of home-grown favourites. At the top of that list is Conrad Mewse.
So naturally, there will be a lot of interest in Conrad. And that may be magnified this weekend due to the British champion unexpectedly leaving Hitachi KTM a few weeks ago. He has still not announced his plans as we post this, but is looking like a privateer effort in his final year of MX2.
An international field of 125cc pilots will support the two main classes. The on-track action gets underway at 8.55am with the first qualifying sessions with the opening race for the 125 class at 10.45am.
You can purchase entry tickets for 35 (adults) at the gate and 5 for kids aged 515. However, it's cash only on the gates, and while there are cash machines on-site, it may be a good idea to take some notes with you for spends and entry.
The entry ticket also includes free access to the riders paddock and parking! Note the postcode SY4 4NA.
