FOR his tenth season of GP racing Rui Goncalves, the most successful motocrosser ever to come out of Portugal, must move to MX1 in line with the newly introduced age limitation on MX2. The 24-year-old leaves the class as world number two after ranking in the top ten for the fourth consecutive year.

Supremely fit after three years under the wing of Stefan Everts, Rui is also the man who will race KTM's new generation 350 machine in 2010, but in typical laid back style he had long come to terms with the obligatory class jump: "I think it's gonna be good, but it's gonna be new, different riders with a bigger bike but I think it's gonna suit me. I just need to work hard and focus on the new bike.

‘‘You don't have to be a Ken De Dycker to ride MX1. And I wouldn't have been worried about riding a 450. Just look at Max (Nagl), we're about the same size, we both have a smooth riding style and it works for him.”
