A treble for Pettitt at Wakes

ROUND six of the DEP British Two-stroke Moto-cross Championship saw Wakes Colne in Essex, perfumed with the glorious smell of pre-mix. The track was, as ever, immaculately prepped and perfect come Sunday morning, even with a very wet build-up to the event. Riders were spoilt for choice when it came to lines, and the dirt was spot-on.Despite the perfect conditions however, Andre David, third in the Open Experts standings, had a couple of nasty offs in practice the second of which left him with a dislocated elbow and put an end to his day before racing began.
The 125cc A class kicked off with Jack Brunell up front and trying to escape, but Jonathan Pettitt is just on fire at the moment – the TM-mounted star took his time getting past Lloyd Morgan to take second and coolly set about running Brunell down.
Pettitt made the pass and it looked like that would be all she wrote, but Brunell came bouncing right back, jumping back over Pettitt into the lead with a cheeky look-back for good measure. It was all for nothing, however, as Pettitt just spat on his hands and went to work, charging straight into a lead he didn't lose again.
Morgan held a strong third until a tumble dropped him down the field behind reigning champion, Dave Willett, and Jim Davies.
Brunell also holeshot race two, avoiding a first-lap clash that put Paul Shires, Jim Scrafton and Oliver Rusby on the floor. Pettitt was right there in second, allowing the youngster to lead a couple of laps before taking charge and easing away for the win. Morgan again gated well in third, but Willett made his way through within a couple of laps, desperate to close Brunell down.
Brunell, however, had other ideas, and held a comfortable gap over the ‘Ironman' and crossed the line seven seconds to the good.
Davies made his way into fourth but problems keeping his feet on the TM's pegs cost him time, and both Morgan and Christian Taylor made their way past him by the finish.
Taylor led the pack away in the final moto ahead of Brunell, Sean Stevens and Davies, with Pettitt in the lower reaches of the top ten. However, any hopes they might have had of toppling Pettitt were soon dashed as the number 118 TM was soon into the lead and easing away once more.
