Motocross

WAYNE Smith (Pioneer Yamaha) sailed to two dominant wins in the Pro Open class at round six of the AMCA's British Masters Series, staged at a rough and tough Hawkstone Park, Shropshire. The hard, fierce and technical conditions meant that in the very competitive Pro 125cc class, it was the rider who made the least mistakes would take the overall. And that's how it turned out Martin Barr (U-Tag Yamaha) claimed the overall win with a second and a race win, just two-points clear of race one winner, PAR Homes Honda rider, Shane Carless.
Weather-wise the two race days couldn't have been more different as Saturday started with drizzle that turned into rain, then back to drizzle, and so it continued all day.
On Sunday, in contrast, the sun poked through as the clouds were blown across the sky by a pleasant cool wind.
Hawkstone can take as much rain as the weather can throw at it, and racing continued without any problems.

PRO OPEN
RAY Rowson on his super fast PAR Homes Honda grabbed the holeshot at the start of the first Pro Open race with Carless, who was riding both Pro classes, proved that you don't need a big bike to be up front. He slotted his 250 Honda in behind his team-mate as they disappeared into the trees for the first time.
At the end of the opening lap Smith had moved into third with the on from Joe Dark in fourth.
On lap three Carless was still hounding Rowson for the lead while Smith was on his own in third and Dark was coming under pressure from Jordon Rose and Mark Jones.
The next three laps really shook things up as firstly Rowson made a mistake, letting Carless through to the lead. Then Smith took second a lap later, and the lead a lap after that as Rowson seemed to lose his rhythm and dropped off the pace of the two leaders.
With 20 of the 25-minute race completed, the Smith/ Carless battle had an 11-second lead over Rowson who, in turn, had a 14-second advantage over Dark in fourth who had Rose and Jones in very close company.

PRO 125cc
BARR lead the pack into the trees on the opening lap of the first Pro 125cc race, followed by Carless and Lewis Gregory. However, as the riders came round to complete their first lap, Carless was leading and already opening up a gap on the pack.
At the end of the third lap Carless had a four-second lead over Barr, with Gregory slipping back into the clutches of Bradshaw.
Kristian Whatley was in a lonely fifth while Owen Delaney and Scott Elderfield fought over sixth.
In the closing stages, Gregory made a slight mistake allowing Bradshaw through to take third, with Whatley and Elderfield filling the next two places as Delaney slipped back into the pack.
Carless crossed the winning line just over 16-seconds clear of Barr.
The fast-starting Carless got the holeshot in moto two ahead of the chasing Bradshaw and Barr.
