A weekend of Inter'est

Torridge and DMCC hosted the 2007 Inter Centre Team Trials over the weekend, at Lower Wembsworthy Farm, Hart-land, North Devon.
The event was well supported on both days with 20 teams in the Youthclass on Saturday, as well as three Girls teams, plus 19 teams in theAdults on Sunday which included top female rider Becky Cook who wasriding for the Southern centre.
The weather had been kind and every effort had been put in to markingout sections which everybody agreed was fair for everyone. Each riderhad six hours to complete two laps of 20 sections, but things weredrawn to a conclusion early on both days.
On Saturday, it was the Girls who got things underway and it was theEast Midlands team who got off to a flyer with three riders out of fourcleaning the opener. The Yorkshire team did the same. Hannah Styles wasin fine form in Youth B and dropped just four marks on her opening lapwith fellow East Midlands teamster, Emma Bristow, leading the way inYouth A on 24 marks.
Things got a bit more difficult on lap two as the sections, which werein and out of the stream, became a bit slippery on the stream exits andmore marks were lost on lap two with Hannah dropping 11 marks to giveher a total of 15, still top rider in Youth B class, while Emma droppeda further 16 marks to put her on 40, still top Youth A rider. Moreimportantly, they just held off
a determined effort from Harriet Peacock and Robyn Alderson who hadbrilliant second laps in Youth B and lost just 16 marks between them.
However, it wasn't enough for the Yorkshire team and they had to settle for runner-up spot behind the East Midland Centre.
In the Youth trial there was great expectation for the South Westernteam competing on home soil - with plenty of supporters to urge them on.
