Defending champions Brett Wilkinson and Joe Millard won both motos in the opening round of the 2025 ACU British Sidecarcross Championship at Warmingham Lane in Cheshire to open up a six-point lead over 18-time British Champion Stuart Brown and his new passenger Scott Grahame. Conditions at the circuit near Middlewich were perfect as racing got underway under leaden grey skies.

Brett Wilkinson/ Joe Millard rocketed to a pair of race wins

Fastest qualifiers Brown/ Grahame grabbed the holeshot in race one ahead of Wilkinson/ Millard and Michael Hodges/ Ryan Henderson who made a great start from a disadvantageous starting position after having electrical issues in qualification. The three teams opened up a small gap on the rest of the field that was led by Sam Osbaldiston/ Thomas Mackay and Neil Campbell/ Paul Horton.

Wilkinson/ Millard wasted no time in attacking the leaders and took over at the front on lap two as Brown/ Grahame chased hard. Hodges/ Henderson were a safe third throughout as Campbell/ Horton eventually got the better of Osbaldiston/ Mackay. That’s how it stayed until the chequered flag with Ashlie Williamson/ Jak Watson placing sixth.

Stuart Brown and Scott Grahame led both races but had to be content with second overall

The race two start mirrored race one almost exactly with Brown/ Grahame holding the lead ahead of Wilkinson/ Millard and Hodges/ Henderson. The third-placed crew ground to a halt as their electrical problems returned, leaving Wilkinson/ Millard able to focus on hunting down the leader. After chucking everything at Brown/ Grahame for several laps, a sweep around the outside finally got the job done and Wilkinson/ Millard were able to edge away to take the race win and claim the top step on the podium over Brown/ Grahame who had to be content with second in the race and on the day. But it was all happening behind them…

Campbell.jpg
Neil Campbell and Paul Horton looked like they had third overall in the bag until disaster struck

Campbell/ Horton initially sat third ahead of Williamson/ Watson, Liam Mudie/ Jake Grahame and George and Jim Kinge. But a mistake for Campbell/ Horton saw them charging through the field as Mudie/ Grahame passed Williamson/ Watson who were feeling some heat from the Kinge pair. With the final spot on the podium up for grabs, the scrap was fierce with Kinge/ Kinge eventually placing third in the race to make up for their first moto no score.

Fourth place in the race for Williamson/ Watson got the job done as Campbell/ Horton could only get back to seventh in the race and missed out on third overall by a single point. Mudie/ Grahame finished a fantastic fifth while Osbaldiston/Mackay took sixth in the race to secure fifth overall on the day with Mudie/ Grahame sixth in the series standings at the end of a tough day.
