Barmy Army's beach blaster

WITH wall-to-wall sunshine on day one together with the calibre of Ray Rowson, Jamie Lewis and Scott Elderfield all kicking sand into the faces of the opposition, this year's Wilden MXC Barmouth Beach-cross event proved to be a real treat on Halloween Saturday.
A combined group of Junior and Inter 85cc racers launched the weekend's proceedings and it soon became pretty clear that Jay Thomas would be a hard act to beat.
At the end of the day, hard became totally impossible with Jay rattling up five terrific race wins. Thomas Davies and Ricky Roderick caught the eye but it was Thomas who went on to claim the runners up trophy with a perfect set of five second places finishes.
In the Junior section James McFayden with three race wins finished just ahead of two times race winner Jordan Wright.
In an eventful Youth division Ryan Thomas eventually prevailed on a weekend that just got better and better for him as he won races four and five following an indifferent start.
Karl Haycock who also won two races looked clear favourite to claim the overall going into race five, but he was desperately unlucky with his machine failing to restart when he only needed a half decent finish to nail the top prize. Ben Thomas claimed the missing race win.
