A FANTASTIC day of racing at the Autodromo Daniel Bonara at Franciacorta, Italy, ended with France grasping the Francesco Zerbi Trophy, the prize for the winner of the FIM SuperMoto of Nations, in front of 7,000 fans.
The Frenchmen claimed their second Supermoto desNations crown after a maiden win from 2003 when the event was heldonly at European level.
Italy, winners of the first Supermoto des Nationslast year, ended with a solid second place while the Great Britain triorounded off the podium, repeating their result of last year atBishopscourt.
France, the best team on paper with the top threeriders in the World S1 Supermoto Championship standings, had aneventful qualifying day on Saturday, with Thierry Van den Boschbreaking his left hand and Adrien Chareyre suffering from mechanicalproblems.
However, Sunday was another day for the squad, whosaw Thomas Chareyre win the first heat after he shook off theattentions of Massimo Beltrami and Bernd Hiemer, in a race that gave nochance of victory to the S2 riders.
With Van Den Bosch claiming an incredible win inthe second heat, Adrien Chareyre rode for the points in both heats, finishing fifth and sixth, with the latter being the worse result forthe squad.
The Italy teamsters were disappointed with second. They lost by just one point, while last year they brought the Trophyhome with a six-point advantage over France.
Davide Gozzini was the fastest in the team, winning the third heat after finishing second in heat two, when hebattled his hardest with VdB' before the Frenchman eventually took thelead. Massimo Beltrami showed an incredible determination which hasnever manifest itself in the Grands Prix this season, confirming thegreat motivation that a team event like the Nations can bring out.
