Bou pulls off an Italian job

Despite the threat of rain ruining play, reigning World champion, Toni Bou, further strengthened his grip on the 2011 SPEA FIM World Trials Championship with victory at the Italian Grand Prix.

Although countryman Adam Raga also managed to avoid the rain that saw some of the World Pro class struggle during the latter stages, he could only manage second place as Bou extended his lead at the top of the series standings.

Repsol Montesa teamster, Takahisa Fujinami finished third after struggling with a bad case of sickness throughout the day.

Located in Northern Italy only 100-kilometres northwest of Milan, the small rural town of Montecrestese played host to the fifth round of the world championship.

Although this venue had previously held national level trials competition, this was the first time it had hosted a World Championshp Trial.

Heavy rainfall in the days just prior to the event threatened to play havoc with the already difficult sections, but hot and dry weather on Saturday and most of Sunday produced a good trial.
