FatCat frenzy for British Youth Nationals
By Team TMX on 9th Apr 14
Round one of the 2014 British Youth Nationals will take place this weekend at FatCat Moto Parc near Doncaster this weekend, April 12/13.
More than 200 of the most talented youth riders in the UK are set to battle it out to become British champions.
The tough sandy conditions of FatCat makes perfect sense for the season opener in damp and chilly April in the UK, as the track is rideable in all weather conditions.
However, the weather forecast for this weekend is looking dry which will make for exciting racing in all classes.
"It makes perfect sense to race at a sand circuit for the start of our season,” said Gareth Hockey of RHL Activities.
"We have the cream of British Youth racing on show this weekend and with the weather looking favourable, our opening round is set to go off with a bang.”
This year the BYN championship will also include a brand-new 125cc two-stroke class for 14-17-years-olds as well as the British under 23 championship which was a huge success in 2013.
"A lot of riders still race two-strokes so we decided to add this class in 2014,” explained Gareth.
‘‘Not everyone likes to ride a four-stroke, so after numerous calls from riders and parents asking if they could compete in their own class it was only right to add them as well.
"The racing will certainly be of the highest order.”
There are still places available in ACU Youth open, ACU British Youth 125 class and the British Under-23 championship.
The championship this year starts at FatCat and travels around the UK for five rounds including Milton Park, Culham, Brookthorpe and Leuchars in Scotland for the final round.
Gareth said: "We listened to feedback from the parents and we have produced a list of tracks which will make the championship fun and competitive for all age groups.
"We really can't wait for the first gate drop on Saturday. 2014 will be as good as it gets for British Youth motocross.
"We would also like to thank all our sponsors this year who have helped in making the championship a bigger and better place for youth motocross riders to showcase their talent.
"It's the aim of the championship to push the sport into the future and make the British Youth Nationals the premier youth series in Europe, as well as a breeding ground for future British world champions,” concluded Hockey.
Places are still available in the following classes: ACU Open Youth, ACU British Youth 125 Class and the British Under 23 championship.
