IT was a Sherco double whammy at the top of the Scottish Six Days Trial leaderboard with Michael Brown and first-timer Albert Cabestany both losing just three marks on Monday. But the opening day of the 2010 SSDT was ultimately all about time.
Those who avoided time penalties were laughing and those who failed to keep their eye on the clock were left to rue their extra marks for the remainder of the week. The losers were former winner, Gas Gas pilot James Dabill, who should have been leading the field with an observation score of just a single mark that rocketed to eight with seven dropped on time and Beta's Jack Challoner, whose two mark effort in the sections saw an extra 10 time faults added which made a mighty 12.
The big shock of the day though was Dougie Lampkin's factory Beta striking an electrical fault that ultimately cost him a mighty 27 on time to go with six on observation for a 33 mark total and with it all chances of recording that record breaking double hat-trick of Scottish Six Days Trial wins. It was some opening day!
