Chris did the Traver'lling!

SAM Haslam, probably the furthest travelled competitor, dropped just a single mark to win the 79th Travers Trophy Trial on Sunday.
The event, organised by the Newcastle and District Motor Club was held in perfect weather, around the Weardale area of County Durham, with 40 sections over a road-based, 32-mile single lap.
The trial was the final round of the 2009 Novogar Championship, but also had an eased (Clubman) course which catered for around half of the entry.
After Haslam, there were only three other riders in the mix for the top prize, with Dan Thorpe, Chris Pearson and John Crinson all reckoning on seven at the finish, but both Thorpe and Pearson were credited with lower scores in the final results.
Thorpe said he was hopeful of getting a three at Smallburns after puncturing in the section and pushing out, so was
mystified as to how he ended with a clean, and Pearson felt the same after a giant dab helped him up the two rock steps. Haslam was immaculate here but Crinson needed one, while the rest of the entry all incurred either a three or a five.
