Motocross

ITS ONLY mid-July but already two championships have been decided at last weekend's round of the British MMX Championship staged by the Woodbridge club's excellent Blaxhall circuit in Suffolk.Third place overall gave Pioneer Yamaha's Wayne Smith enough of a points advantage to take the Open Championship for a second successive year, while in the Quad championship it was Paul Winrow on his Winrow Racing Honda all the way as John Mitchell did all he could to beat him. Two more wins gave Winrow a point's lead of 105, and with a maximum 100 points up for grabs in the two remaining rounds, Winrow is the 2008 Champion. With another overall win, Alex Snow on his KTM UK machine will take the decider of the PAR Homes-sponsored Under 21 championship to the sixth and final round where only CCM's Kristian Whatley, and Ashley Greedy on his Talbot Cars Suzuki can stop him.

OPEN
PREVIOUS round winner Ray Rowson led the pack into turn one at the start of the first Open race but as the riders disappeared from view Danny Smyth was seen picking up his Wiseco Honda in turn two.
Rowson came back into view with Gordon Crockard on another PAR Honda second and Swift Suzuki's Brad Anderson third in front of series leader, Smith.
Rowson made a mistake on lap three and dropped back to seventh place and handed the lead to Anderson as Crockard, Smith and Bryan MacKenzie all moved up a place.
By the halfway stage, Anderson had a four-second lead over Crockard, with Smith 15-seconds behind him. Rowson had fought his way back up to fourth. Rowson caught and passed Smith with six laps to go.
Anderson took the win, just under 13-seconds ahead of Crockard, with Rowson third just over 40-seconds behind the leader.

UNDER 21
ALEX Snow got the holeshot at the start of the first Under 21 race but as he went round the first turn and a heap of riders went down in the sand with championship contenders Joe Dark and Whatley both involved.
Back at the front Snow had got into an early rhythmn and was already pulling out a lead over Ash Greedy and Robert Hamilton.
Greedy made a mistake on lap four and went down to fifth but a lap later he was already making his way forward.
By the time the race was half over Snow had a 15-second lead over Hamilton, who had Greedy on his tail, while Whatley, from 17th at the end of lap one, was in seventh and pushing hard.

The title chase in the Under 21 class is still wide open going into the final round, and Kristian Whatley is right there in the mix, a last race win at Blaxhall helping his campaign.

Snow cruised to the win just over 13-seconds clear of Greedy and Alan Keet, with Hamilton hanging onto fourth and the flying Whatley, fifth.
Once again Snow lead the pack into turn one on a track that was rutting up, with Dark second and Whatley third, and after three laps the top six riders of Snow, Dark, Whatley, Greedy, Keet and Carless couldn't be separated.

QUAD
IT ALL went a bit wrong for second and third in the championship race before racing started and both Richard Tordoff on his Mercuria Yamaha, and Paul Holmes on a ATV World Yamaha just didn't seem to get a good enough qualifying time.
As a result the knew they had to start both races from the second row, and it was a tall order to get some good points from such a position.
Winrow, though, had no such trouble and got the holeshot at the start of the first Quad race with Mitchell second and Stefan Murphy third – and that's the way it stayed all race long.
