Motocross

Jake Nicholls, Dean Wilson and Brad Anderson did Britain proud as they missed the podium by just a single-point in the Motocross des Nations at Thunder Valley on Sunday as the American hosts came back from the dead in the final moto to clinch their sixth consecutive Nations title with a 1-2 from Ryan Dungey and Andrew Short.

Dean Wilson was second best MX2 rider on the day to the phenomenal Ken Roczen, and was man enough to admit: "He's fast. There's nothing else to say.

Jake Nicholls had a nightmare first ride as the subframe bolts fell out on lap one and he lost the rear brake three-laps later, but came back for a final moto 12th, and Brad Anderson was a revelation on his debut in national colours, taking fourth overall in a loaded Open class from 8-11 motos.

Ireland, shattered by their qualification efforts in the morning, were inevitably never in the hunt and rounded out the top 20.
