So sweet for Sagar

Motocross

With David Knight having wrapped up the E3 title at the previous round and Tom Sagar a shoe-in for the E2 title barring major disaster the racing to watch at the final round of the 2010 BEC was in E1.

Just five points separated class leader Daryl Bolter and British Enduro legend Paul Edmondson.

To much surprise, it was MPS Husqvarna young gun Alex ‘Rocky' Rockwell who set the early and blistering pace, going two seconds clear of the entire field in the first test.

Unfortunately his TE250 didn't make it to the end of the check before it suffered mechanical problems and ended his day prematurely.

From then on it became the Tom Sagar show, as he pulled strong gaps on the Enduro test and matched all suitors on the MX test, rounding the day almost 20 seconds clear.

Daryl and Paul continued to trade test wins throughout the day until the penultimate MX test, where a mistake from Daryl gave Fast Eddy a seven-second gift.

Bolter stepped-up to the plate and took the time straight back in the next test and the pair finished the day a mere 0.33 seconds apart.

A decent ride from Greg Evans put him a comfortable fourth overall and second in E2.

Isle of Man youngster, and the 2010 British Expert Enduro Champion Daniel McCanney, rounded out the top five in his first race in Championship class, claiming E3 honours along the way.

On day two the ACU rule book came out in a big way as teams and officials attempted to decipher who would win E1 in the different scenarios that unfolded throughout the day.

Add into the mix Alex Rockwell, who is showing he has the speed to match anyone in the BEC, and you have some real excitement.

While ‘Rocky' and Sagar played cat and mouse at the front of the standings, Paul and Daryl once again wouldn't give each other any breathing space.

Coming into the final two tests Daryl had managed to squeeze a meagre  four second advantage. As he exited the final MX test of the day, having made a series of mistakes, he felt he'd thrown it away.

Edmondson entered the test 30-seconds before and despite putting in a strong ride, crashed in dramatic soap-opera fashion.

They set almost identical times, leaving the four-second gap coming into the final Enduro test.
Paul emerged from the woods to set his fastest time of the day, and it was clear he really wanted to win.

Thirty-seconds later the KTM of Daryl dropped off the infamous ‘Wall' and across the finish line to set another identical time to the Suzuki star.

Daryl was the well-deserved E1 champion, but the surprise ‘star of the day' award goes to Alex Rockwell.
