20,000 reasons to join the DEP two-stroke extravaganza.THIS Sunday, (October 15), sees the final round of the 2006 DEP 125cc Two-stroke motocross championship going ahead at the fitting venue of Hawkstone Park, but already the news has been released that the prize fund for the 2007 series is likely to exceed 20,000!
The popular two-stroke ONLY series has only been in existance for two seasons, running two-stroke 125cc machines, but due to major pressure from two-stroke riders around the country, the series organisers have had to bow down to the pressure and include an all-new Open class for next year and therefore the title of the series will change to the DEP Two-Stroke Championship.
Series co-ordinator Chris Barker explained: "We have had two great years so far and we never dreamt that a two-stroke only series would be so popular.
"The overwhelming requests from riders to introduce a 250/ 500cc Open class made this decision easy. Next year's series will be run over ten rounds with one Open class and three 125cc groups and we shall also run a couple of two-day events.
"At present the prize fund is a phenomenal £20,000 and that will increase as we near the new year as manufacturers and sponsors get in touch regularly to offer their support and products as prizes for EACH round.
"We've talked with the registered riders over the season and have decided that it is best to award major cash prizes at each round including £150 per Expert class and £50 per Junior class win plus excellent product prizes from our many sponsors including Lazer Helmets, Berik Boots, DEP, Motul, Smith, Hardcore Racing, Michelin, Werx and Quickshift, and with three races per round there is much to win.
"The sponsors products will be won on a random basis which will mean not just the few will win the gear but the majority if not every rider will receive something during the season.
"We are in the process of finalising our circuits and dates for next year, and plan NOT to clash with any Maxxis British rounds to try and intice that status of rider to our series to try and win some major prizes.
"On the circuit front, we are currently talking to Whitby and Gore Basin on the Isle of White as we believe these are two of the best circuits in the UK and can't wait to add them to our increasing list of top class venues."
Registration for next year's series will commence on the November 1 and it will be held strictly on a first come, first served bases.
Registration forms will be available on line at www.125mx.com or send a stamped address envelop to DEP 2stroke Challenge, Elms Industrial Park, Wickford, Essex SF12 9EP.
