THE Grand Prix Le Alpi del Mare staged at Busca, Italy, was one of the best rounds of the World Supermoto Championships this season with 7,000 spectators watching some wonderful action in both classes S1 and S2. Italy's Ivan Lazzarini and Belgian Thierry Van Den Bosch ended the day with double victories.
The S1 class was all about three riders – Lazzarini, Belgian Gerald Delepine and Germany's Bernd Heimer.
Lazzarini flew back from Ireland after winning the Supermoto of Nations at Bishopscourt. His performance was supreme at the weekend and Ivan notched up two back-to-back moto wins after as many breathtaking duels with his team-mate Delepine.
After the start of the first Moto Heimer was leading from Delepine and Lazzarini with Lorenzo Pes fourth. The German opened up an important gap but then crashed. Delepine and Lazzarini passed in front of him with the Italian looking for an open door to pass his team-mate.
Ivan found it at the off-road section but after that life was not easy – Delepine tried his best to move back to the front but Ivan managed his advantage and held on for the win.
Bernd Heimer got his KTM back to the track and finished third with Brit Christian Iddon fourth, thanks to pass he pulled over Italian Pes. Robert Baraccani completed the top five on his factory TM.
