ON Sunday, Dan Thorpe turned the tables on Cleveland Trial winner Graham Jarvis when he took the Premier award in the Chris Carter Trophy Trial, staged in the Washburn Valley area, from Rosedale Forestry commission official Ian Austermuhle.
Jarvis stalled the engine of his MRS Sherco in the Dob Park sectionof the course and never managed to pull back his five-mark deficit.Grand National winner Ben Hemingway was fourth while his brother Dan won theNovogar Clubman Championship class on his Repsol Beta from Bingley'sMartin Crosswaite and West Leeds member Liam Walker.
Grimbo did clean the entire course, apart from section two in DobPark, where the first nine sections fired-off the Carter. For somereason Graham clicked in the choke control on the MRS Sherco four-stroke before thenarrow gully, and did not reset it. Consequences? The engine diedmid-section, with the jockey still feet-up. That five was not redeemable, on thatcourse, with a pile of national winners right on hand. Of course MessrsThorpe, Austermuhle, Pearson, the Hemmo band and Crosser and Walker heard aboutGrimbo's downfall, where the only notable stopper was Dan Farrer in thetop 20 riders.
