BritaIns favourite Geordie motocrosser, Brad Anderson, has been residing down under for a good four months now. With time to settle in to his new life in the sun, and time testing the Carlton Dry Honda, Brad has been a busy boy.But the fun has now stopped and the serious games have begun as Brad kicked off his racing season with a superb overall in the opening round of the Victorian State championship in Wonthaggi, after claiming all four motos on March 18.Before Brads schedule gets too manic, TMX thought it was about time to see if Brad is living the dream.
TMX: Hi Brad, a big g'day from all of us at TMX! You've had time now to settle in to your new home. How's day-today-life treating Hayley and yourself... and your pet pooch.Did the move run smoothly?
Brad: Yeah all good here no problem settling in the weathers lvly and enjoy riding my bike everyday, Rocky's at home with Hayleys parents we mis him lots but it was not possible to fly him over.
TMX: We all love your Geordie accent over here, but can the Aussies understand you?!
Brad: It's taken a while, and sometimes I have to repet myself, Ive got them all speaking our slang now!
TMX: You cant beat a British BBQ, but I bet they are ten-times better and come ten-times more often over there. Is the outdoor living as good as it looks?
Brad: We had a BBQ at my team mates it was mint.
TMX: Whilst over here in the UK the Weather has been doing as it should... Generally cold and wet. Its summer out in Aus, so how are you finding training in the heat?
Brad: Ive been able to train outside everyday. I love the cycling and running, it's so nice to get up and not have to worry about the weather. Melbourne is a realy sporty place, I also play squash to with my
mechanic Marty
TMX: Where exactly in Australia are you based?
Brad: Toorak road, Toorak about 15-minutes off the city Melbourne, five-minutes from st Kilda beech and next to Chapel Street... which Hayley loves for the shops!
TMX: Are there many tracks near you?
Brad: Yes theres Frankston next to the workshop, and Yarrive my boss has a practise track at his. They are building a super x track there to which is cool. I travel about two hours max to practise which is good. I'm enjoying riding difrent tracks.
TMX: How do the tracks compare to what you were used to in the UK?
Brad: Theres tyres round the circuits they don't have posts, I've rode some realy good sand tracks here too, a lot of them are private tracks which my friends here have been getting me on. They are all watered and riped here.
TMX: What does an average day at the moment consist of. Are you getting much spare time to make new friends?
Brad: Chris Muir has flown out from England which is good, and my team mate Ford Dale is pretty cool. I'm over staying at his for the week on the Sunshine Coast so he is taking us to difrent tracks and were hanging out with his friends. Hayley's looking forward to seeing Harriet Billys girlfriend at the races, but all in all everyone we have meet has been realy friendly!
TMX: With your first race completed, how does racing in Australia differ to any of your ‘home' meetings?
Brad: The races are shorter and closer together, i've only done one race so far but it was good.
TMX: Is the atmosphere more relaxed between races?
Brad: Yeah everythings more relaxed over here in Oz, theres no stress and everyone helps out.
TMX: While riding with Honda is no stranger to you, How did Carlton Dry Honda stand up in competition. Did its performance match that of you previous PAR Honda?
Brad: They are both well run teams, the bikes are about the same and I have a lot of the same setings in my Carlton Dry bike as I had on PAR Honda
TMX: Have the team made you feel welcome to ease you into your new life?
Brad: There all great, I'm over staying at my team mates for a week. Everyones realy cool and they have been taking us all over which is great. My mechanic Marty is great and I have a good relationship with him.
TMX: One last thing...Have you had a go at surfing yet?
BRAD: Believe it or not today I have been surfing with Ford and Chris! It rained heavy yesterday so the waves were big today. I s**t myself but loved it. We're gona defo do it again.
