Dream debut for Todd Kellett
By Team TMX on 19th Jul 17
If ever there was a dream team debut then Todd Kellett nailed it at Blaxhall on Sunday.
After starting the season on a St Blazey MX/SJ Hodder Husqvarna, Roger Magee drafted him in for his Hitachi KTM UK team and Todd rose to the occasion.
Since winning the 2014 AX Rookie title the 20-year-old West Country weapon's demonstrated his potential again and again and at Blaxhall on Sunday he showed incredible maturity to race to his first Maxxis moto win and secure his first Maxxis overall.
While many of the top riders were getting ready to go home, I caught up with Todd under the team awning where he was spinning the spanners and helping to break down his race bike.
"It's surreal, what you dream of," he said. "I've had a good week on the new bike. The first race was steady and I didn't get a great start but in the second race I just thought I'd have a bit of fun."
The Kellett clan is about as down-toe-earth as it gets and Todd is just grounded - not cocky - when he says it how he sees it.
"I'd like to think I should be running at or near the front," he added in the least rock-star way imaginable. "The first race was actually a bit of a disappointment - I think I should have been in second really but it's one of those things.
"That was my first start on the bike so everything is new to me and I'm still learning. We're just taking it as it comes, step by step."n Picture: Nuno Laranjeira
