Dungey's Dome comforts

ALMOST 60,000 fans piled into the Edward Jones Dome, St Louis, to witness series leader Ryan Dungey and Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto resume their battle for the World AMA and Monster Energy Supercross title. And it was action all the way as Dungey secured his fifth race win after struggling with the tricky track conditions whilst Villopoto suffered a heavy crash and was unable to continue. Meanwhile, in the Supercross East Lites class, British ex-pat, Dean Wilson returned from a spell on the sidelines following immigration problems to secure a career best in the second.

As the gate dropped for the main event it was Kawasaki's Nick Wey who shot into the first turn to claim the Spike Holeshot award as Dungey and Davi Millsaps followed in second and third.

Dungey wasted no time in piling on the pressure, and by lap two had moved to the front as Villopoto was climbing the ranks to sit in second. The pair then headed off to play cat and mouse, both riders giving 100 per cent. However, on lap nine Villopoto saw his chance to move past Dungey but unfortunately the pair collided, sending them both to ground.
