A win and a second place gave the Latvian crew of Maris Rupeiks and Kaspars Stupelis victory in the weekend's British Sidecar-cross GP the first such event in this country since 2001, and the cream of World Sidecar-cross crossed the Channel to contest the event. A total of 41 teams, including 12 British and one Irish crew (John Watson) assembled at the Langrish circuit last Friday. Many had ridden the challenging track before at the annual Ken Hall meeting but a significant number had not.
Saturday had been sunny and warm, so provided a perfect setting against which the steep climbs, technical jumps and sheer drops could be viewed to advantage. An enthusiastic crowd enjoyed the practice sessions before the main event of the day – two qualifying races to decide 24 of the participants for Sundays' GP races.

Yamaha-mounted Frenchman, Romain Couprie, was in a class of his own at the second round of the European QuadX Championship, which was run alongside the World SidecarX championship at the spectacular hillside course at Langrish just outside Petersfield, Hampshire.
That not to say the large home-grown crowd had nothing to shout about as we had a rider on the overall podium in KTM's ten-time British champion, Paul Winrow, and no less then four riders in the top ten pitched against Europe's best.
