Duns and dusted

Motocross

With a truly breathtaking panoramic backdrop, Langton Lees Farm, high up in the hills near Duns in Scotland was the scenic setting for round three of this years BYMX series.

In bright sunny conditions the Junior 65's got the show on the road with style merchant Colin Scott and series leader Jed Etchells officially winning motos one and two. In real time however local hero Scott Russell, competing as a support rider, twice showed everyone the quickest way around. On day two it was a different tale as Alexander Brown upped his game to claim the Little Laird of Langton Lees crown – laying down three scorching heat victories that also settled a few local Scottish bragging rights issues with his arch rival Russell. Browns final card reading 5-2-1-1-1 as opposed to second placed overall Etchells who carded  3-1-5-2-3 – that despite being hampered by a badly bruised and swollen foot for most of the event.

Callum Meara and Harry Kimber toughed it out for positions three and four – both guys in rapid scintillating form as they posted just one finish each outside the top four. Colin Scott had to battle his way through day two also carrying an injury but bravely he finished in fifth overall. Oliver Costerdine proudly rounded out the top six. Brown and Etchells are now tied at the top of the Championship points standings.

Consistency was the name of the game in the Small-wheel 85cc division with Conrad Mewse putting on a masterclass demonstration. Mewse was totally untouchable with a five race clean sweep that now puts him clear at the top of the championship table. Sid Evans took second overall with an almost as consistent 2-3-2-2-2 finish – and that to be honest was the only slight challenge to Mewse – such was his magnificent dominance. Jay Hague snatched the missing second place finish in heat two and he totalled in third place overall clearly looking like the third best rider over the two day piece- but also looking a tad short of his very best form. In a tight and tasty scrap for fourth, fifth and six overall  Jordan Eccles just about nabbed it, one point to the good over Will Keogh with Taylor Hammal creditably making the podium for the second time this year in sixth.

Ben Watson was the other support rider showing a blistering turn of speed that proved to be totally unmatched by his Championship rivals. Watson with a jaw dropping weekend display won four of his heats quite comfortably as Rob Davidson nailed the other race win in real time. Davidson's five race championship card discarding Watson's efforts reading 10-1-4-1-1. His first race nightmare surely costing him the overall win. Ultimately Davidson only lost top spot by one single point with the winners spoils going to Liam Knight. That following a super consistent show from Knight where he never stepped outside of the top four – and highlighted by his race three win. Knight now leads the way in the championship table as Tom Neal fell back following his third place overall. Neal finished with a real flourish however bagging a brace of second place finishes in heats four and five – but a loose exhaust in race three cost him valuable points. Fourth place on the box went to Josh Gilbert. A series best from him, and a jubilant second place finish in heat three to boot.
