MORTIMER Classic MCC proved once again, on Sunday, that it has few equals in organising a Classic Scramble with a small but highly experienced and efficient team, on the quart in a pint pot' course layout they achieve at Amey's Copse.

The long-term future of this venue must always bein doubt since acquisition by the Prudential Insurance Company but longmay racing continue there, as the 120-odd solo and 20-strong sidecarentry would confirm, along with a healthy number of spectators.

A fine sunny day with a cooling breeze madeconditions ideal and clerk of the course, Gerry Allen, had done hisusual excellent job in preparing the surface during the week withplenty of watering to lay the dust. A 23-race programme ran smoothlywith only a couple of minor delays, the first when a sidecar ended inthe ditch adjoining the road in practice.

The Greeves Champion-ship kicked off proceedingswith the tenth round of this well organised and supported series. Notquite such close racing this time as Danny Albins (Griffon) got away inthe first and never looked like being caught, while in leg two IanWebster (Challenger) did much the same.
