The MXGP of France delivered a breakthrough moment in MX2 as Guillem Farres stormed to his first-ever Grand Prix victory with a perfect 1-1 performance at Lacapelle-Marival.
On a dry, technical and demanding Circuit Georges Filhol, the Spaniard kept his cool across both motos to lead home a dominant 1-2 for Triumph, with Camden McLellan completing a dream result for the factory squad.
Early drama defined the opening moto as holeshot man Sacha Coenen threw away the lead with a costly mistake on lap one, handing control to Farres.
From there, the Spaniard managed the race superbly, resisting pressure from home favourite Mathis Valin to take a composed win.
McLellan worked his way forward impressively, picking off riders late on to snatch third, while title contender Simon Laengenfelder recovered from a difficult start to finish strongly inside the top three.
The second moto looked set for another twist as Janis Reisulis led much of the race, fending off relentless pressure from the Triumph pairing.
But with just a couple of laps remaining, Farres made his move stick – diving through to take the lead before controlling the closing stages.
McLellan closed in late and even launched a last-corner attempt, but Farres held firm to secure the double and his maiden GP overall.
Behind them, Valin delivered again for the home crowd with third overall, continuing his strong run of form.
The result shakes up the MX2 standings, with Farres significantly closing the gap to series leader Laengenfelder, while Coenen’s early mistake proved costly in the title fight.
With momentum now firmly on his side, Farres heads to Germany as the man to watch - especially on another hardpack circuit where he’s already proven his speed.
