FIM Officially Approved Teams MX1/MX2 2010
By Infront Moto Racing on 5th Jul 09
UDDEVALLA (SWEDEN), 5 July 2009 - After the successful 2009 season and to increase the quality of events and services, these are the improvements for 2010:
1. MX1
A maximum of 26 riders will be entered for the entire FIM MX1 World Championship, and in addition 2 FMNR wild card riders and another 2 wild card riders (which Youthstream will use in order to support teams' and local organisers' requests for extra riders) will be entered per event.
The Regulations allow up to 40 riders, but to increase the quality we want to try and keep MX1 with a maximum of 30 riders.
2. MX2
From 2010 the class will be for riders less than 23 years old.
As we have many requests from riders wanting to participate in this class and as this is a promotional class, we will enter 40 riders per event. There will be 32 riders entered for the entire FIM MX2 World Championship, and 2 FMNR wild card riders and another 6 wild card riders (which Youthstream will use in order to support teams' – who want to test new riders - and local organiser's, and some riders from Continental Championships).
Our goal is to reduce the number of teams present, to increase the quality, the stability and the finance. We are not planning on entering new teams but to confirm the large majority of the 2009 teams who have shown us their professionalism and that they respect their engagements with their riders, staff, partners, Youthstream and FIM. We prefer to concentrate on the majority of the existing teams than to enter new teams, because this automatically excludes some more of the actual teams. When new sponsors, partners or teams are interested in entering the FIM World Championship, they can do it via one of the existing teams. This naturally is not valid for the manufacturers, because if we have other manufacturers who wish to enter they are very welcome.
To be entered, teams must prove to have the budget and to be financially able to participate to the entire FIM World Championship (excluding the overseas events if they are not in the top 20). Teams must be in condition to respect their engagements with their riders, staff, partners, Youthstream and fully respect the FIM Regulations, and promote the FIM Motocross World Championship in a good and positive way.
At the beginning of this year, in order to enter the teams, we asked the manufacturers to propose us their list of teams who they wanted to enter, but this proved to not work as it should. So now manufacturers will be able to enter their factory team, but all other teams will be accepted by Youthstream based on the professionalism shown during the current season.
Concerning overseas travel, it is only compulsory for the top 20 in the World Championship classification to go. For the others it's completely up to them.
The first 2010 provisional OAT list will be published at the beginning of August, and for the private teams we will only announce the name of the teams (not the name of the manufacturers) as there still are a lot of negotiations between these teams and the different manufacturers.
We will only accept teams with 2 riders in one class; we will no longer accept teams with one rider in MX1 and the other in MX2 or teams with one rider with one brand of motorcycle and the other with another brand. For some special occasions we will accept teams with a 3rd rider but only if it's a factory team or a private team who has shown to have the financial potential to cover the costs of the 3rd rider without having any problem.
During the year Youthstream has been speaking to Martin Van Genderen (representing the OATs) to improve the services, paddock and the relationship between teams and Youthstream. These discussions are very positive and Youthstream will do their best to continue developing Motocross' image, the TV production, the race track, the various services supplied to the teams and the dialogue and relationship with the teams.
