THE first round of the three-event 2007 World Ladies Trials Champion-ship took place in the Czech Republic on Saturday, preceding Sun-day's men's round, at Kramolin, 70 miles south of Prague.

The sections, in the main, were laid-out alongside the proposed men's sections and were mainly rocky hazards set in the heavily wooded venue.

Repsol-Montesa ace, Laia Sanz, already a seven-time Ladies champ, has her eyes on a record-breaking eighth crown and the talented Catalan did nail maximum points for the win. But German rider Iris Kramer, well-known to British fans, as she is a big supporter of the Scottish Six Days, is making a determined effort this year to match Laia and move up from her usual runner-up placing. The two fought out a real low-scoring nail-biter but Sanz refused to crack.

Britain had no fewer than seven girls in the frame and Becky Cook and Donna Fox had their usual ding-dong with Becky making the podium this time from Donna while Maria Conway, sixth, and Emma Bristow made it four in the top ten, Katy Sunter just missing out in 11th after a tie-break with Emma!
