Top marks for Mark
By Dick Law on 18th Jul 07
WITH the help of two good starts, Mark Hucklebridge, on his Motoxtreme Kawasaki, stepped on to the top step of the winner's podium at round six of the CCM-backed British MMX Championship at Dean Moor, Cumbria, at the weekend, while Four-stroke current champion, Brad Anderson, had yet another breakdown on his Pioneer Yamaha, and series leader, Wayne Smith, riding a PAR Homes Honda, suffered some of those niggling problems you only seem to get towards the end of a championship when you have a reasonable lead.
Meanwhile, in the Under 21 Championship, Ray Rowson and his Molson Kawasaki suffered two unusual defeats at the hands of Swift Suzuki teamster Elliot Banks-Browne. In the Quad Championship, John Mitchell notched up another two wins on his ATV World Yamaha, but in the wet' second race he was pushed all the way to the chequered flag by a resurgent Paul Winrow on his Interlock Lonestar Honda.
What can you say about the weather these last three weeks? The hard-working team at West Cumbria Motocross Club were lucky on that score as, after it had rained for most of Friday night and the early part of Saturday, the rain just managed to hold off and the strong wind and open hill top track next to the beautiful Lake District was in excellent racing condition.
The weather-man had said that rain was coming up from the south and would arrive late afternoon, so wisely the club brought the race time table forward by 30 minutes in an effort to finish racing before it came, and it nearly worked! It rained during the last race of the day, and it wasn't very heavy.
