FOUR-MIDABLE!
By Dick Law on 15th Apr 15
Kristian Whatley (Buildbase Honda) tightened his stranglehold on the MX1 class of this years Michelin MX Nationals by winning both races at last weekends second round at Foxhill to make it four from four.
In the MX2 championship Frenchman Steven Lenoir (Dyer & Butler KTM) notched up two strong race wins to extend his championship lead.
All classes had four races over the two-day event apart from the two Pro divisions who just raced on the Sunday, scored separately in a couple of mixed-capacity motos.
Harry Kullas (Heads & All Threads Suzuki) got the holeshot in the first combined Pro class race from Steven Clarke (Apico Husqvarna), Alex Snow (Phoenix Husqvarna), Whatley and Josh Spinks (Verde KTM). Graeme Irwin (Heads & All Threads Suzuki) was back in 10th, with MX2 series leader Lenoir in his wheel-tracks.
Clarke took the lead from Kullas on the second lap but Whatley stormed past the pair of them on the very next lap and went on to win by just over five seconds. Martin Barr (BRT KTM) followed Whatley through into second on lap six but was pushed back a place with seven laps to go by the flying Irwin, with Clarke holding onto fourth.
Lenoir crossed the finish line in fifth overall and first of the MX2 riders. Neville Bradshaw (272 Racing School Husqvarna) was the second MX2 rider home in 10th.
Whatley holeshot race two and stormed off into the distance leaving the rest to squabble over the lower places.
Irwin gated second and spent the whole of the race trying to get on terms with Whatley, with the gap between the two increasing and decreasing numerous times as the clock counted down.
Barr passed Spinks and Shane Carless (Oakleaf Honda) before settling into a lonely third place, while Lenoir moved forward from eighth on the opening lap to cross the line surrounded by 450s in fourth for a double class win.
Bradshaw was once again second MX2 rider in 10th with James Harrison (Phoenix Husqvarna) matching his first-race performance with third in class.
