Fox force five...
By TMX Archives on 30th Jul 10
Well over 3,500 spectators witnessed what must have been the best racing so far this year, as the Maxxis Championship rolled into the Foxhill circuit for the fifth round of this year's series.
The circuit was in prime condition and featured a few alterations, along with riders from all parts of the world attending, the scene was set for some exciting start to finish racing.
MX2 riders, Zach Osborne and Jake Nicholls, both had huge get offs in timed practice but showed they were up for the challenge even if they were battered and bruised.
Stephen Sword
In the MX1 class, exciting Russian Evgeny Bobryshev, just back from a visit home, was under pressure to perform to his usual standards, by home riders Stephen Sword and Brad Anderson... and it was ‘Swordy' who took a race win from him.
The usual timed practice saw Jake Nicholls take top spot, but in the superpole Martin Barr outgunned Nicholls to be first to the start-gate.
However, with all the practice over, it was down to racing and Nicholls took his usual holeshot into the first corner, followed by Neville Bradshaw, Scott Elderfield and the rest of the pack.
Nicholls pulled a comfortable lead while Bradshaw and Elderfield battled for second spot. Nicholls main championship rival, Zach Osborne, was down in seventh – and suffering from his practice crash – but he soon started to move up the order, bringing Shane Careless with him. The charge proved to be a little late, as Nicholls took the win.
Elderfield took second after a race long scrap with Bradshaw. Osborne, in pain, finished fourth and Careless fifth just ahead of pole-sitter Barr.
Nicholls again nailed the holeshot in race two with Elderfield, Barr and Mel Pocock in tow.
Further down the field battles were going on with Seb Osborne, Bradshaw, Banks-Browne and Whatley.
Zach Osborne was back in 25th place after a clash with Pocock at the start. Despite his already battered body the American was on the charge again through the field.
Nicholls went on to claim his second moto win of the afternoon ahead of Barr who got the better of Elderfield on lap six. Bradshaw also demoted Elderfield to finish third. Elderfield took fourth.
Osborne eventually came home tenth!
Race three saw new HM Plant KTM rider, Alex Erickson, take the holeshot, but he was soon overwhelmed by a revitalised Osborne before the first lap was complete.
Bryan McKenzie took over in second while Banks-Browne and Karro also demoted Erickson before the first lap was over.
Nicholls, who was involved a clash at the start, was down in 11th spot but was picking off the places on each lap.
Osborne was way out front and went on to take the moto win.
McKenzie was soon the target for Nicholls and battled with him up to the last lap before he took the advantage and second place at the flag. Karro and Elderfied rounded out the top five.
Nicholls claimed the overall with Elderfield second. Osborne occupied third place on the podium, just pipping Bradshaw who had his best results of the season.
With the crashes and sore bodies of Osborne and Nicholls showing at the end, Nicholls has closed the gap at the top of the championship to just seven points behind Osborne so leaving the battles to continue to the next round at Farleigh Castle.
