Foxhill ready for the Masters
By TMX Archives on 28th Jun 17
While it seems just like yesterday that the national season began, coming up this weekend at Foxhill, is the penultimate round of the Pirelli Masters series.
This will be round five of six and in the Junior 65s Keelan Hope has amassed a 72-point advantage over second-placed Tyler Hooley. Taking two round victories, scoring seven individual race wins so far, Hope has been the section stand out performer.
Hooley, the round one top points scorer, appears comfortable in championship second, he's 64 points to the good over Roan Delaney.
That said, Delaney has proved a race winner, and with two blank scores on his championship record, he could think himself somewhat unlucky not to be challenging for a higher position.
James Parr holds down series fourth, he's in striking distance of Delaney but just 13 ahead of Shaun Mahoney. Harry West rounds out the top six.
In the Small-wheel 85s, after finishing runner-up at round one Harvey Cashmore has now risen to the top of the standings. Taking overall victory at rounds three and four means Cashmore is now 63 points ahead of Joel Fisher.
At the previous Mildenhall round, Fisher nailed two race wins and second overall, his best show of the series so far, so, while Jack Raybould sits in championship third, he's just 16 points behind Fisher and 22 ahead of Arai Elcock in fourth. Max Lewis holds championship fifth and he's only seven points adrift of Elcock.
Having carved out a good series lead at rounds one and two in the Big-wheel 85s, Olly Davidson now has to fend off the close attentions of Dominic Lancett. Winning the two previous rounds, claiming seven heat wins, hotshot Lancett has reduced the points gap from 42 down to seven.
Over the championship distance so far, Davidson has proved his worth bagging four heat wins, while Cullen Scott, third in the standings, has hit three. It's fair to say, between the three of them, they've put on dominating show up at the sharp end, as entertaining as any other Big-wheel 85s series this year. Behind the leading trio, Ollie Beamish, Buster Hart and Travis Steels make up a competitive top six.
In the MXY2 ranks, having dominated all four previous rounds, Redline Honda UK runner Howard Wainwright has all but sealed the deal. He's the defending MXY2 champion, he has a 105-point lead and he could well be crowned champion with one round to go.
In the battle behind Wainwright, Ben Burridge, Rory Jones and James Angel are the respective candidates eyeing up series second. At the previous round Jones finished runner to Wainwright as Burridge took third overall.
