Motocross

The final round of the GT Cup 2011 was held at Culham Park near Abingdon. Expectations were high by a hard working series committee and all the extra 'bling' was set in place to make this an event to remember. A fantastic live music show, huge screen showing all previous rounds and continuous results throughout the weekend, a super fire-work display and disco to close day one.

MX1 Ace Aaron Jenner had a maximum but had to work hard to get in front of fast starting Tom Moore. Jenner made a mistake in race three dropping down to third at mid distance, but was determined to get back to the front with three fast laps and got past Mark Young and Tom Moore to take the flag.

These two riders finished equal on points with Mark trying very hard on the first day in difficult conditions, made a few mistakes which cost him the runner-up spot. There were some great tussles for the minor positions, with Junior Thomas getting the better of Brett Wheeler, George Purchase and Ryan Bawn.

MX2 – Sebastian Osbourne first race looked like he was going to be an easy winner but the heavy conditions caught him out and he had to fight hard to get back to fourth at the flag. The rest of the weekend was pure exhibition with runaway wins especially when the track dried out.

Nicky Watts revelled in the difficult conditions and raced to an excellent win in heat one followed by some second positions, he looked an obvious podium contender certainly leaving his best efforts to last in the series.

Problems left Watts with fourth in the second day opener but the final moto was his best effort and he chased Osbourne home leaving holeshot rider Piers Skinner a distant third. Ryan Williams almost blew his third position as he crashed in race two, but his remaining results ensured the final podium spot.

The Youth 125cc Two-stroke class was very competitive with a real battle for the top six positions. Ricky Roderick, taking maximum points on day one, was made to work much harder on day two as the championship points were being decided in the final races. A third and first place gave him an impressive overall.

Matthew Thomas, never out of the top three, worked hard to get up to third place to take second on the day with Corrie Southwood's 100% efforts costing him valuable points crashing when well in front in race three.

David Sweet, a popular Coventry rider, had consistent rides all weekend, holeshotting the final race making sure of good championship points. Connor Pearce started with a third in the difficult opening race just two points behind Sweet at the end with a good set of results.

MYX2 – South African rider Damon Strydom had a superb maximum but was made to work hard in every race by fast starting Alex Davies who had five runner-up spots. Jay Thomas made too many mistakes but finished well clear in third accumulating valuable championship points.
