Head off to the Lakes
By Team TMX on 2nd Sep 15
Regs are out now for one of the most popular weekend events in the calendar, the LMTAs Lakes Two Day Trial.
Many of you will have been counting down to this as it takes place this year on the weekend of October 10/11.
The first Lakes took place back in 1975 when the Lakes Motorcycle Trials Association was born from an association of three Northern centre clubs: Barrow, Formula Furness and Bootle.
Nigel Birkett's late dad Bill was a driving force in the event and his courses could best be described as challenging.
Especially as those early Lakes took place in January with snow and ice almost always present.
The date was moved to October to sort out the snow and ice.
As ever the Lakes is based in the Cumbrian market town of Broughton in Furness and the routes will be totally different each day.
Reintroduced recently, the Saturday run will head north over Corney Fell to Fell Green, Bootle with a good variety of sections on offer.
Sunday will be based roughly on a line between the Broughton to Torver road with an equal variety of section groups.
There will be 40 separate sections each day and the routes include roadwork so riders and machines need to be fully road legal.
Last year James Dabill won from his pal Michael Brown. Michael is recovering well from a nasty knee injury but isn't expected to contest the Lakes but hopefully Dibs will be back looking for a big National win on the Vertigo.
Clubman winner last year was Yorkshire veteran Graham Tales on his equally venerable Montesa 315 two-stroke.
Graham has since built a superb special with a 315 motor mounted in a 4RT chassis so who'd bet against a repeat win.
There are 180 entries up for grabs with priority given to 70 places on the National route with the remainder on the popular Clubman route.
