MANXMAN David Knight has once again shown that when the going gets tough he certainly knows how to get going. In the first-ever running of the Hell's Gate extreme enduro in Barga, Italy, David beat off all the competition by a massive 27 minutes in the four-lap race.David's performance is made all the more memorable due to the fact that it's the first time he's ever raced a two-stroke KTM - and that he finished the race with no lights in ever darkening conditions. Oh, and did we mention that the event was so tough just three riders made it to the end!"It's brilliant to have won," says David. "I knew the race was going to be hard but I was confident I could do it. At the end of the first lap I thought it might be difficult to win because I lost my lights but I just tried to push as hard as possible so I could get as much riding done in the daylight."On the last lap it was completely dark and I thought that I had no chance of winning. When I got into the woods I couldn't see a thing and I haven't got a clue how I got round. I just tried to follow the lines from the previous laps as best I could."David's D-3 team-mate Ed Jones was classified as a non-finisher after he dropped over 30 minutes behind the race-leader. "It's disappointing not to have finished," says Ed. "But when you consider that riders like Stefan Merriman and Cyril Despres didn't finish either I guess I can't be too disappointed."
