ONE OF Britain's oldest - and finest - motocross venues is in danger of closure after coming under fire from nearby residents. ONE OF Britain's oldest - and finest - motocross venues is in danger of closure after coming under fire from nearby residents. Matchams Park in Hampshire has been host to a whole range of race events from club meetings to internationals - including the recent KWSMX series opener - since it opened way back in 1920.The circuit recently changed hands and new owner Kevin Hoare has invested a considerable amount of money into the world-famous venue to bring it up to its current high standard. But all could be lost if a handful of local residents get their way. There's been a number of complaints regarding both the noise coming from the PA and from race bikes. The PA problem has already been dealt with by Matchams MX World to everyone's satisfaction but complaints about bike noise levels continue to arise. Anyone's who's been to the re-vamped Matchams facility will agree that this is one track that the sport can not afford to lose. But what can we do?The first and most obvious solution is to make sure you keep your silencer properly packed, not only at Matchams but wherever you ride. Remember, not only does a poorly-packed silencer rob you of precious horse-power, it could also rob you of a preciously needed riding spot.Secondly, we should get right behind Matchams Park and help beat their noise abatement order by signing the save Matchams Park petition that's available to be downloaded from the dbr website - www.tmxnews.co.uk - or by calling the Matchams MX World office on 01425 483933.Ed's note: Due to a technical hitch (me stuffing up) the petition is not available to download yet! Hopefully it should be up and running by close of play on March 12...
