Herring crowned MD Racing Veterans Champion

Rob Herring has taken the inaugural Veterans Championship at Lyng in Norfolk supporting round five of the ACU Maxxis British Motocross Championship.

Herring took two dominant wins, in race one he crossed the line 33secsclear of second placed man Paul Bennett and lapped riders who wererunning as far up as eighth place. In race two he pulled out an evenbigger lead of 45.807secs to completely obliterate the competition.Herring really reminded everyone why he is a former multiple BritishChampion.

In race one it was Terry House who took third place having battledwith Lance Marshall and Richard Thrower to take his podium place.

Race two Herring was joined on the podium by Bennett once again and Marshall held on to grab third.

Third place overall on the day went to Stephen Elford who finished race one in fourth place and race two in fifth position.

Herring said: "It's been a very good weekend. A big thanks to SteveJames of LPE Kawasaki for preparing a bike for me. It was all a bitlast minute but I wanted to come and relax and enjoy the track. I wonthe British Open here for the first time in 1996 and I had my firstBritish Championship race here in 1986, the track has hardly changedsince then.”

Bennett said: "It went well I was expecting Greg Hanson to be herewhich would have made me third but he isn't and I've finished insecond!”

Elford said: "I decided to qualifying on the 450 but ended up racingthe 250. If the Championship goes ahead next year I'd love to takepart.”
