Red Bull KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings picked up his 100th GP win at Riola Sardola in Italy – the second round of the 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship – thanks, in part, to a stunning second moto ride that saw him scythe through the pack to take the runner-up spot in the closing moments of the moto, to match his race one result. The Dutchman’s 2-2 scorecard was enough to secure the top step on the podium where he was flanked by race two winner Glenn Coldenhoff (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Jorge Prado (Red Bull GASGAS) who retains the series lead.
“A 100th GP win – amazing! It was tough because the track was fast and it wasn’t easy to pass, the nearer you got to the front the harder it was. When the other riders were getting a bit tired, I was still in good shape and could keep pushing,” said the 28-year-old Dutchman.
The latest win leaves Herlings one overall victory short of tying Stefan Everts’ current record of 101 GP victories although with ‘just’ five world titles to his name, he’s still only halfway towards equalling Stefan’s total of 10 world championships and four short of Red Bull KTM team manager Tony Cairoli’s nine.
