Husqvarna dominate MX2 class in muddy MXGP of Castilla la Mancha
By Team TMX on 16th Mar 25

The FIM Motocross World Championship headed to Spain for its second round of 20 and an extremely muddy Cozar for the MXGP of Castilla la Mancha. Incredible amounts of rain had left the circuit sodden which made it incredibly hard work for the 22 MX2 riders who travelled to Circuito Motor Ranch.
Many feared that conditions were so bad that no racing would take place but that was never an option for the Infront Moto Racing team who somehow pulled it off with all four classes managing a full quota of races.
It was Monster Energy Yamaha’s Thibault Benistant who mastered the conditions in Saturday’s Qualifying Race as he led home the Austrin-built bikes of Sacha Coenen (Red Bull KTM), Liam Everts (Nestaan Husqvarna), Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM) and reigning champion Kay de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna) in an orange, white, orange, white parade that shoulda looked like Nemo in colour but was actually more akin to everyone having fallen in Willy Wonka’s chocolate river.
After overnight rain, conditions were even worse for Sunday’s opening moto. Team HRC’s Ferruccio Zanchi took the holeshot and never looked back with only Everts offering any real challenge – the Belgian finishing 11 seconds behind after a tortuous 30-minute plus two-lap moto. De Wolf was over a minute behind his teammate in third, with Benistant fourth, Simon Langenfelder (Red Bull KTM) fifth ahead of British Champion Cas Valk (Venrooy KTM). Only 10 riders stayed on the lead lap, another four dropped one lap while the rest of the finishers dropped two behind the pacesetter.
Conditions were slightly better for race two as Everts absolutely dominated – eventually winning by more than half a lap to take the GP victory! De Wolf secured second to secure the series lead – Everts now second - with Adamo, Langenfelder and Valk rounding out the top five. Race one winner, Zanchi came home 10th to secure the final spot on the podium.
"I’m super happy and almost lost for words right now,” said Everts who has endured a tough recovery after breaking his back in China last year. “Just six months ago, I was sitting on the couch at home, unsure if I would ever race again. I worked incredibly hard to get back here, but I didn’t do it alone. The support from my new team has been fantastic, and having our boss, Kay Hennekens, here today makes this 1-2 finish even more special. In these tough conditions, I just focused on letting it flow – something my dad always taught me. It’s an incredible feeling to take this win!"
The series now heads to the hardpack hillside of St Jean d’Angely in France.
