Motocross

Racing got under way with the buzzing 125 two-strokes, and it was a sound never to forget as 40 bikes hit the circuit at speed and kept the crowd on their toes as the battle commenced.

With six races on the cards over the weekend, it was a battle of who could stay the pace in the deep sandy track. Jack Brunel showed he could ride the surface in race one after battles with Nathan Rooks, Jamie Collins, Danny Tollet and Brett Hillman he claimed race one with ease and it turned out to be a good weekend for him, winning five out of the six races. He only stumbled in race five as Rooks got the better of him after an epic battle for the lead.

Alex Rach showed he still has it in him to race at the front as he took the lead in race one of the 250cc two-stroke classes, but it wasn't all plain sailing as Jamie Jackson was on fire and battles galore were witnessed between the two in all of the six races. Jackson showed he meant business as he took race one with Rach second, Carl Brogden was also in the mix and finished third ahead of Brett Hillman and Stevie McKenzie. The rest of the six race schedule saw Jackson take the first four race wins, before Rach took the final two to take the overall by just two points, leaving the chasing pack to sort themselves out for the minor placings. Man of the meeting by far was Jake Boyes who had a bad crash on day one, and a hospital visit only to come back fully stitched up and take sixth place.

In the 500cc two-stokes Barry Turnbull looked like he was going to repeat his Hawkstone park win the week before as he took the win in race one ahead of Jason Martin, Craig Marsden and Tim Rhodes. Race two and with a Turnbull no show as he had problems with the bike, Martin took the win with Marsden second and Rhodes third. Day two saw only two riders survive the tough day one and it was Marsden who claimed all three wins with Turnbull only able to complete one race.

In the Veterans race Dave Dunn took all three race wins on day one ahead of Peter Taylor in second three times. Richard Brown took three third places. Day two and Brown took the win in race four with Dunn second, but the final two wins came from Dunn to let him claim the overall. Euroteks Mark Jackson and Fatcat boss Martin Craven raced on day two and had some good races in the top five.

The Ladies also raced in this combined class but were scored separate but showed they can mix it with the Vets. Craven had a hard time in a couple of races as the spectators cheered young Stacey Fisher as she gave Craven a hard time all race long in all three races.

The Ladies showed they can ride just as fast as the boys and the forecast battles between Kerry Wilson and last year's Champion Stacey Fisher showed who had been on the bike more over the winter break. Wilson took race one with Fisher on her back wheel as they came over the line. Amy Goodlad and Kayleigh Durston battled for third place with Goodlad taking it at the line. Fisher Claimed the next three race wins as Wilson suffered arm pump and let Goodlad take one of her second place finishes. Wilson did take race five with Goodlad second and Fisher third, but Fisher took the final race of the weekend to take her race wins to four out of six and claim the top spot on the podium.

Alex Butler had a clean sweep of six out of six race wins to take the lead in the championship for MX1 Riders. He was always on his guard as Haydon Wilkinson, Luke Dowsing and Ryan Thorp were biting his back wheel all race long in all of the races.

Jack Brunel also had a clean sweep in the MX2 class winning all the six races with ease. John Hawkins tried his best to stay with him but had to settle for six second places.
