SIXTEEN year-old Beta-riding Yorkie, Jack Challoner, was crowned European Youth Trials Champion on Sunday following a convincing win in the Italian round.

The series comprises just three rounds with onescore to drop, so Jack, having also won the opening round in Spain, wasin an unassailable position and the crown is his! Seven-times LadiesWorld Champ Laia Sanz also won the Ladies crown having, like Jack, alsopicked-up two victories.

The trial, contested by a healthy entry of over 40Youths and 20 Girls, was staged at Lazzate in northern Italy in veryhot conditions and the going comprised plenty of big rock steps whichsuited Jack and his factory-tuned 125 Beta. Jack started offconfidently and was only on a single dab going into the last section onthe opening lap when a lapse of concentration saw him lose three quickmarks and suddenly his lap score was four - one more than his mainseries rival, Spaniard Hector Molina.
