May flies at Little Silver
By Dave Rich on 26th Jul 07
STRANGE to say that while a host of motocross events over the weekend had to be cancelled because of the torrential rain, the organisers at Little Silver Moto Parc, just outside Exeter, had to put down water to try and keep the dust at bay.
The event was round ten of the Remedies BarMotocross Championship which drew a huge entry, many non-registeredriders who were all looking for somewhere to ride. This meant therewere three groups of Juniors, plus Over 35, and that the MX1 and MX2Experts were put together.
John May heralded the field in the opening Expertrace from Henry Western and current Junior champion, Kurt Brain.Current Expert 125cc series leader, Danial Preston, and Open classfront runner, George Davis, both went down on the first corner.
May was flying at the front but he couldn't shakeoff Western who was sticking with him and it wasn't long before seriesdebutant, 125cc-mounted Kristian Whatley, was with them to make it athree-way battle.
Whatley got the best of Western on lap four andwas soon pressurising May, who he passed with ease on lap five as Mayseemed to strike a problem. He was stuck in third gear which enabledWhatley to get away. Nevertheless, May kept going and held off Westernto claim second. Joe Dark finished sixth - second in the 125 class withLuke Hill third 125cc, finishing in seventh.
Again it was May, with the hole shot, in race twoahead of Paul Cowshall and Western. Current Open class series leader,Andrew Gillett, got a better start in this one - in fifth just behindBrain.
Cowshall dropped it on the opening lap and Gillett was under a lot of pressure from Whatley who was all over him like a rash.
