Jake Nicholls will miss this weekends British GP after complications to the wrist injury he sustained in February.
The 25-year-old Wilvo Forkrent KTM rider broke his right radius and ulna at an international meeting at Lacapelle Marival in France. He returned to racing at the second round of the Maxxis series at Lyng on April 5 and four weeks later competed at round three at Canada Heights but while his results showed good progress behind the scenes he's been struggling.
"I did everything I was told to but looking back I guess I tried to come back too soon,” said Jake. "When I rode at Lyng my arm was fixed with metal – the radius was plated and the ulna was wired. After Lyng I had the wire taken out which gave me much more movement back. The surgeon said I should be able to ride after a week but even then I gave it another week.
"In the week before Canada Heights I rode four times and at Canada Heights I had a pretty good day if you consider that I was feeling ill and it was only my second race since my finger injury last summer.”
However, an X-ray on the Tuesday following Canada Heights showed that the ulna hadn't healed properly.
"I still had hopes of racing the British GP but the surgeon actually texted me and said I should get a second opinion so I saw a bloke in London last week who confirmed that the break hasn't healed.
"It's very frustrating. I was racing five weeks ago, feeling positive and looking forward to getting back into it and after Canada Heights I was confident everything was going to be fine.
"I'm hoping that in the next two-and-a-bit weeks the bone heals or I'm going to need a difficult operation with plates and a bone graft. I've done two races since I did my finger and that was nearly a year ago.”
