Jake’s three Cadd trick

Motocross

Jake Nicholls was fresh from his first world motocross championship podium.

And he was riding high and bursting with confidence as he took three wins from three starts in the MX2 class at lastweekend's second round of the Maxxis British Motocross championship, at the historic Cadders Hill, Lyng track in
Norfolk.

Reigning champion, and series red plate holder, Elliott Banks-Browne just didn't have an answer for Nicholls' speed as he and his HM Plant KTM team struggled with bike set-up.

But from the other end of the HM Plant awning it was all smiles as their young rising star, Nathan Watson, finished third overall for his first Maxxis podium.

In MX1 it was all about the GP runners as Tommy Searle – making his second Maxxis wild card ride on his Pro-circuit Kawasaki, – Tanel Leok (Route 77 Honda) and the returning from injury Matiss Karro (STR KTM) all fought for the overall.

For the first time this year the weather was good and the track was dry – in fact so dry that the club went looking for a water bowser on Thursday, so they could water the track Friday and Saturday.

Nicholls was fastest in both the qualification and super pole, but only just from the ever improving Watson.

As the gate fell in race one Nicholls got the holeshot and just checked out, leaving behind him a pile of riders and bikes halfway up the start straight.

They all got going again apart from Stephen Sword, whose David Thorpe Honda was too bent to carry on.

Banks-Browne had gated second but, as the race went, on came under increasing pressure from Bryan MacKenzie (Pendrich Kawasaki) and Watson, while Neville Bradshaw, on his very revvy Putoline Honda, made his way through the pack after being involved in the start line pile-up.

With three laps to go, Watson found a way past the struggling Bank-Browne to snatch second, 30 seconds behind the winner, with Banks-Browne third,  MacKenzie fourth, and Bradshaw eighth, from almost last at the start.

Race two was almost a carbon copy of the first with Nicholls getting his second holeshot from Banks-Browne and Watson and young guns Jordon Booker and Adam Sterry fourth and fifth.

The top three stayed the same, with Bradshaw fourth after passing Steven Lenoir on the very last lap, as Booker and Sterry held on to fifth and sixth.

MacKenzie saved his best start to last as he led the pack into turn one and the start of the third and final MX2 race of the day, with Nicholls, Watson and Banks-Browne all on his case.

By the end of the second lap, Nicholls was in the lead again and opening up a lead as Banks-Brown found a way past Watson to take over third place on lap three.

And three laps later he pushed MacKenzie down as he moved into second.
