It was a devastatingly cruel blow to the Brit who was eventually credited with 21st place by the organisers.
The event, contested by an incredible 1500 entries, was eventually won, for the fifth time, by extreme specialist Taddy Blazusiak on the factory KTM, but there was joy for the Brits with Dougie Lampkin taking his Gas Gas to a superb second and Cumbrian Jonny Walker, riding the event for the first time, an incredible third.
