Jarvis Hooks win to reel Brown in
By TMX Archives on 11th Sep 08

RAIN throughout the week and on Saturday made it very difficult for the Colin Appleyard British Trials Championship at Hook Woods Trials Centre. Clerk of the course, Jim Connor and the hard working Thames MCC put in hours of hard graft re-designing the sections with big log steps and rock boulders. As Sunday dawned dry but cold, hundreds of spectators turned up to witness the cream of Britain's best riders tackling some very spectacular sections.
Alexz Wigg looked very impressive on the Saturday and with his recent form could have been the man to put a spanner in the works.
Section two rode up a concrete step over a log with an exit up a steep bank, followed by a log at the top. Graham Jarvis was superb here with three faultless rides, whilst archrival Michel Brown required a dab on lap one.
Section three was a rocky water gully with two big logs, the problem here was getting out on time. Only Jarvis managed it, taking a three on lap one with the rest all receiving fives on their punch cards.
Nearby number four was also a rocky gully with a big bolder to reach the ends cards. Jarvis was the only rider to go clean on lap one, with Shaun Morris having the only other clean of the day on his third attempt.
Sections five six and seven were situated amongst the trees. Alexz Wigg was the only rider to reach the ends of section five, which consisted of rocks on a hillside with a steep exit up across some sleepers.
Overall victor, Graham Jarvis, spectacularly attacks section four as he reels in Championship leader Brown.
Section eight included a massive concrete slab with a log at the top, however the sting in the tail here was a nasty rocky approach onto a massive log. This was where Brown pulled some vital points back on Jarvis, with two cleans and a one.
The 11th section was the most spectacular of the day - a jump across two logs with a gigantic log wall then out to the ends. Only Wigg and Jarvis managed it, with Alexz actually cleaning the log wall to the crowds' cheers, although it was a shame he had dropped three early in the section.
Coming into the last section Jarvis was home and dry with the win, Brown second, and third yet to be decided. Wigg needed a clean here, but on one of the awkward rock turns a foot went down giving Shaun third place.
