JD's Blog: 2014 SSDT Sunday

Motocross

Following a cracking spell of dry, sunny weather, in which the Pre-65 enthusiasts enjoyed the 30th Two Day Trial held on the moors around Kinlochleven (won by Rob Bwyer on his 500 Triumph twin) the Highland weather returned to type and looming low cloud heavy with rain enveloped Fort William for Sunday's Scottish Six Days Trial weigh-in.

This made for a quiet day in parc ferme in the West End car park as riders got their machines scrutineered as quickly as possible before seeking shelter, waiting for when they had to reclaim their machines from the secure compound ready for the parade through town - which alao took place at record speed due to the weather.

With no dramas, last year's winner Dougie Lampkin weighed in his DL12 machine which is in reality a personalised Gas Gas pretty much up to the factory spec he used to devastating effect last year. He faces plenty of opposition though from the likes of James Dabill, Michael Brown, Alexz Wigg and Ross Danby. Hot favourite for the First Timer award goes to laid back Swedish teenager Eddie Karlsson who rides a four stroke Montesa but has the advantage of an experienced riding partner in James Duxbury.

Scot Ian Shankie will fire his Sherco up at 7.30 prompt this morning (Monday) for the day's 70 mile run taking in 30 observed sections beginning with five at Leanachen Forest just north of Fort William.

Don't forget to come back tomorrow for a daily update...
